美國清教徒神學家瑞合尼伯（Reinhold Niebuhr）在1943年寫的一份禱告詞：「寧靜禱告文」（Serenity Prayer），當時正值世界二次大戰初期，這個禱告詞被印成單張，發送到軍隊中，原文僅有三句： My God grant  me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, And the wisdom to know the difference.
